Aspartic acid is one of the metabolically "active" amino acids in living cells, contributing to the biosynthesis of other amino acids and nitrogen containing compounds such as pyrimidine and purine bases or nucleotides ((l-3) and references therein). In view of the importance of the stable isotope 15N for determining the fate of the amino group in the aminoacids in both in vivo and in vitro systems, we developed a method for obtaining L-[15N]aspartic acid
