✦ Synopsis

A sterically protected diphosphinidenecyclobutene with the 2,4,6-tri-tertbutylphenyl group was allowed to react with tert-butyllithium and iodine, successively, to give 2,2',3,3'-tetraphosphinidene-l,l'-bicyclobutyl derivative, and the structure was confirmed by X-ray analysis, showing unusual short contact between the C=P moieties at the 2 and 2' positions. A strong through-space interaction between them appears to play an important role in rationalization of the 31p NMR and UV/Vis.

## Abstract 2‐Iodoxybenzenesulfonic acid (in a cyclic tautomeric form of 1‐hydroxy‐1__H__‐1,2,3‐benziodoxathiole 1,3,3‐trioxide), a thia‐analog of 2‐iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) and a potentially important oxidizing reagent, was prepared by two different pathways: direct oxidation of 2‐iodobenzenesulfo
