Solid solutions of Mg 1؊x Cu 2؉x O 3 were prepared at 9503C for 12 h in air with a narrow composition range of x from 0.130 to 0.166. Thermal analysis revealed that the sample of x ‫؍‬ 0.143 decomposed into MgO and Cu 2 O above 10303C. The stoichiometric oxygen content based on Cu II valence was con
