✦ Synopsis

Chemical modification of ~t,to-dichloropoly(oxyethylene)s (MW from 400 up to 3000), for obtaining poly(oxyethylene)s with 5-chloro-8-quinolinoxyl end-groups, is described. The products have been characterized by GPC, IH-NMR and electronic spectra. Their ability to form complexes with polymers of acrylic and methacrylic acids in dilute aqueous solution has been investigated. 5-Chloro-8quinolinoxyl end-groups stabilize the polycomplexes. It has been shown that, in the polycomplexes, the N-atom from the quinoline group is not protonated. The fact has been explained by the localization of the 5-chloro-8-quinolinoxyl end-groups mainly in the hydrophobic domains of the complexes.

In order to improve Cu(I1) adsorption ability of chelating resins based on a macrocyclic ligand 1,4,8,1 l-tetraazacyclotetradecane-5,7-dione (L) bound to crosslinked copolymers, the resins were prepared by reaction of L with poly(glycidy1 methacry1ate)s crosslinked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylat
