✦ Synopsis

A polymeric [Th(oda),], (oda = oxydiacetate, O2 CCH20CH2COZ2) complex has been prepared and characterized by I.R. spectroscopy methods. The infrared spectrum and assignment of the characteristic frequencies are reported. We suggest for this complex, also on the basis of the analogies with the [lJO,(oda)],' complex, the chelate structure with decacoordination to the Th atom. In the presence of pyridine N-oxide (Opy), the monomeric complex [Th(oda)Z(Opy),] .3Hz0 is obtained. The 1:3 metallligand complexes are: Nal[Th (oda),].2NaNO, formed from [Th(NO,),]+6H,O and an excess of Naz(oda), and Na2[Th(oda),].nHz0 (n = 2 or 3), formed from the polymeric complex plus a stoichiometric amount of Naz(oda). Also for these complexes the infrared spectra and assignments reported.

The possible structures of these new complexes discussed.
