Abstract

An improved preparation of 2,2′‐bipyridine‐6‐carboxaldehyde 1 provides this compound in good yield for the further syntheses of oligo‐(2,2′‐bipyridyl)pyrazines 6–8, new ligands for supramolecular metallorganic complexes. According to ^1^H‐NMR spectroscopic and X‐ray crystallographic studies, the bis(2,2′‐bipyridyl) compound 6 exists in a helical conformation in solution and in the solid state. The structure of the tetrakis(2,2′‐bipyridyl) compound 8 is also confirmed through its crystal structure.
