โฆ Synopsis
The multiferroic compounds Bi 0.9 Gd 0.05 Sr 0.05 FeO 3 , Bi 0.9 Sm 0.05 Sr 0.05 FeO 3 , Bi 0.9 Gd 0.05 Y 0.05 FeO 3 , and Bi 0.9 Sm 0.05 Y 0.05 FeO 3 were prepared by the conventional ceramic method and were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The compounds were found to have the rhombohedral perovskite-like structure, accompanied by the existence of small amounts of Bi 2 Fe 4 O 9 and Bi 25 FeO 40 impurity phases. The appearance of weak ferromagnetism in Bi 0.9 Gd 0.05 Sr 0.05 FeO 3 and Bi 0.9 Sm 0.05 Sr 0.05 FeO 3 is due to partial destruction of the spiral spin structure due to lattice distortion and oxygen vacancies. The magnetic transition temperatures of the compounds are 360 ยฐC and 355 ยฐC, respectively.
