✦ Synopsis

A series of N-amino acid substituted derivatives of serotonin was prepared. The method entailed condensing the or-halo analogs of alanine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, and valine with 5-benzyloxy-serotonin using a method adapted from Fisher's peptide synthesis. The activity of these compounds was compared with 5-hydroxytryptophan in an Actophotometer to determine their effect on generalized activity in mice. The results are presented along with some possible explanations for the biological observations.
