✦ Synopsis

This paper gives preliminary data on the inversion curve of He 3. This involved establishing an entropy versus temperature chart of isobars and isenthalps. This was done using mainly the tabulations of thermodynamic functions of He 3 issued by Gibbons and Nathan. Then with this chart the maxima in the isenthalps, where (~ T/aS)H is zero, were identified with points on the inversion curve. When expressed in reduced units, namely reduced pressure 7r = P/Pc and reduced temperature r = T/Tc (Pc and Tc are the critical pressure and temperature), it was found that the inversion curve for He 3 was, within experimental error, the same as that for He 4, as reported, for example, by Zelmanov. Furthermore one point on the curve was obtained from experimental observations of Joule-Thomson liquefaction of He 3 by Daunt and Lerner.
