Substantial amounts of sodium carbonate were formed during the reaction of a Wyoming subbituminous coal with a concentrated solution of NaOH in ethanol. Up to 8% of the feed carbon was converted to Na2C03 in a temperature range 2153Oo'C.

## Abstract The crystallite reorientation brought about by the swelling of cotton with sodium hydroxide solution (NaOH) has been investigated. The degree of reorientation as indicated by the decreased value of x‐ray angle may arise from deconvoluting and not necessarily from a change in orientation
The kinetics of reaction of substituted O-benzoylbenzamidoximes with sodium methoxide in methanol were studied at 25 °C. The only reaction products are substituted benzamidoximes and methyl benzoates. The slope of the dependence of rate constant on sodium methoxide concentration gradually increases,
## Abstract The kinetics of alkaline hydrolysis of 2‐chloro‐3,5‐dinitrobenzotrifluoride **1** and 1‐chloro‐2,4‐dinitrobenzene **2** were studied in various acetonitrile–water (AN–H~2~O) mixtures (10–90% w/w) at different temperatures. Thermodynamic parameters Δ__H__^#^ and Δ__S__^#^ show great vari
