A novel labeling procedure using biotin-conjugated protein-modifying reagents has been employed to study the structure and function of the human erythrocyte hexose transporter. The carbohydrate moiety of the isolated, reconstituted transporter was labeled by using galactose oxidase/biotin hydrazide.
