From the Chairman/the Organizer
The International Econophysics Conference is hosted in Bali, Indonesia. Indonesia is a vast and beautifully diverse country stretching for more than 5000 km between the Australian and Asian continents and dividing the Paciÿc and Indian Oceans at the Equator. The name of Indonesia has its roots in two Greek words: "Indos" meaning Indian and "Nesos" which means islands. It is an appropriate description of the archipelago as there are estimated to be 17,0508 islands, of which only about 6000 are inhabited.
Bali is one of the island in Indonesia. This paradise island, a land of a thousand gods, thousand temples, thousand dances, is located at the Paciÿc Ocean, just below the equatorial line, on latitude 8 degree south and longitude 115 degree east. The island is considered to be the most attractive island to visitors. It is estimated that there were more than 3,000,000 visitors a year from all round the world. Most of them seek an understanding of a way of life that is really unique.
Before the conference, we invited several top speakers to have an international seminar of the year in Jakarta. It is our dream that through the seminar, more and more people in Indonesia will know what the econophysics is. And due to Prof. Stanley's kind help to get the top speakers, this seminar was very successful.
Almost all participants thought that the ÿrst econophysics conference in Bali was a big success in both the scientiÿc and social aspects. There was a special balance between econophysicists and economists and the interaction among these disciplines was fruitful under many aspects.
