✦ Synopsis
The differential Angstrom model has been applied to transform the 1985-1987 sunshine records of Motupore Island to insolation data. The a and b regression parameters from the Waigani (UPNG) station, which is 15 km away, have been employed for this. The regression of the data calculated on the measured daily insolation shows a 0.90 regression coefficient, while that of the data calculated on the measured monthly mean daily insolation yields a high 0.98. The calculated insolation successfully predicts the measured mean daily insolation to within 5.5% at 99% level ofconfidence--a promising result, since the measured insolation is known to only 5°,
