β¦ Synopsis
The uptake of adsorbate under equilibrium conditions in a well packed bed of carbon adsorbent approximates the uptake just before breakthrough of a trace concentration from the bed. Two equations have been proposed for predicting kinetic saturation capacity (a) at different temperatures for the same adsorbent. and (b) for adsorbents having the same structure but differing in adsorption space. Applicability of these two equations has hem verified by studying breakthrough of carbon tetrachloride from coconut shell active carbon beds at 30, 40 and 50Β°C and also breakthrough from beds of the same carbon impregnated with copper salt to reduce total adscrption space. Calculated and observed values are in good agreement.

The attachment of solid spherical particles to one another under dynamic conditions has been investigated theoretically. The particles are assumed to be uniform with regard to their bulk properties; however, their surfaces have been altered so that one particle is hydrophobic, another hydrophilic. T
