✦ Synopsis
Continuum damage mechanics (CDM) has frequently been employed to study fracture and damage evolution of polycrystalline metals in recent years. Experimental data indicates that the damage evolution and rupture of metals depend strongly on the stress triaxiality, therefore a proper damage theory may reflect the effect of stress triaxiality on damage evolution reasonably well besides satisfying the requirement of thermodynamics.
