✦ Synopsis

This paper describes the theoretically predicted attenuation in the vibration response of an internally damped, clamped circular plate that is driven by a non-central vibrator), point force, and to which, either a plate-like dynamic vibration absorber or such an absorber and a lumped mass have been attached at the driving point. The driving point is at a distance equal to a fractional part (here, 0"1) of the clamped plate's radius b, and the driving force varies sinusoidally as a function of frequency. The vibration response of interest is the force transmissibility across the plate. The absorbers are attached at their midpoint, and the), possess tuning characteristics for effectively suppressing the first resonance in the response of the clamped plate. These tuning characteristics for operating the absorber at both optimal and non-optimal conditions are investigated by several theoretically generated examples. It is also seen how such an absorber can provide sign(ficant attenuation simuhaneously at more than one frequenQ,.
