✦ Synopsis
High precision direct mass measurements have shown strong potential to identify and determine new nuclear isomeric states, and therefore to add intriguing new nuclear physics information by going beyond γ-ray spectroscopy. The principle and characteristic experimental results of isomer investigations in the storage ring at GSI are discussed.

A simple method of measurement of the beam bunch length in an electron storage ring has been proposed. It measures the time profile of synchrotron radiation using an avalanche photodiode and, assuming a Gaussian profile for the bunch, the length s L has been determined by fitting an equation represe
Few-electron ions, which can be produced and studied at rest in electron beam ion traps (EBITs) are very well suited for the study of nuclear size effects and QED in strong fields, but the various contributions are usually entangled. Therefore, combinations of experiments with ions in different char
