Thin foil specimens of hydrogenated zirconium, Zircaloy-2, and Zr-2.5 wt.% Nb have been observed in a straining stage in a transmission electron microscope. Hydrides were observed to precipitate and grow at the tips of small cracks present in the specimens after the application of a strain increment
