β¦ Synopsis
Strcptomyces phaeochromogenes cells were immobilized in a polymer matrix of 2-hydroxyethyl methacylate (HEPA) by irradiation-induced polymerization of the monomer frozen with the cells. The matrix with entrapped cells was cut into flakes. Activity of glucose isomerase in the matrix was 70-308 of that in non-immobilized cells, and the Michaelis constant was similar (0.36-0.3OM). Leakacje of cells from the immobilized matrix was prevented by coating the cells with hydrophobic monomers (e.9. tetraethyleneglycol acrylate) prior to immobilization in the FIEMA Folymer matrix.
