A paper on the construction and operation of the RO plant 81 of at Ra's Abu Jarjur, Bahrain, has recently been presented at the 2nd World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse (Ericsson et al., 1985 "(Ref. 1)".
The RO plant, with a capacity of 46,000 m3 per day (10 MIGD), was started up in October 1984. The raw water source is high salinity groundwater, carbons.

Special emphasis is given in this paper to the Pre-treatment and Post-treatment sections. Results of the first year of operation are outlined.
Some problems with algae and excessive bacteria growth in the pretreatment filters have been met and effectively controlled. The water quality is better than guaranteed.
