✦ Synopsis

Prazosin has a selective alpha-l-adrenoceptor blocking effect and, as a result, reduces maximal urethral pressure. It decreases detrusor contractility and excitability in patients with detrusor hyperreflexia. The clinical effect of prazosin even in a high-dose regimen is only slight, but clinical investigations are at the moment few. Prazosin is well tolerated, with dizziness as the most commonly reported side effect. With this background, further studies should be performed to document a possible clinical effect in subgroups.
