This Handbook (Lessons 1 - 16) on basic conversational English prepared for the purpose of reaching the thousands of Cantonese-speaking families in the San Francisco Bay Area, is designed to guide and supplement home study of the television series, Sut yung ying yee. Each Handbook lesson corresponds to a half hour Tv program of the same title, and should be studied together with it. The series and Handbook are meant to be the first step toward eventual mastery of the American English language. This handbook represents an unusual major joint effort between a commercial television station and the Chinese Community to overcome the problem of language barrier.
