A highly efficient reaction between sterically and electronically diverse sulfonamides and carboxylic acid anhydrides to furnish monoacylated N-acylsulfonamides is described. This represents the first systematic disclosure of the scope of sulfuric acid-catalyzed acylation of sulfonamides.
