✦ Synopsis

ESR data for various radicals of type RzCCRtX, when R is H or alky!, and X is either CI, Br or I, or PRt and AsR2, are discussed in terms ofp-p homoconjugation.

For the fi-halogen radicals, the nnalt, size of the an&tropic cotrplkg provides some evidence for this effect, but for the P-PR2 and /3-AsR2 radicals, the greatly enhanced isotropic coupling to "P or "As compared xvith those for the corresponding cation-radicals, R2eCRzPR: or K~&JR~AsR:, is taken as good evidence for homoconjugation Kawamura

The doublet-doublet fluorescence spectra of benzyl, pmethylbenzyl andpchlorobenzyl radicals were detected in the 450-650 nm region upon the double-pulse (248 nm-+308 nm) excitation of corresponding benzyl chlorides in hexane at room temperature. The radical polymerization of p-methacryloyloxybenzoic acid (MBA), at 60°C in DMF followed classical kinetics, whereas that in p-dioxane did not as revealed by the rate being proportional to [MBA]'." [AIBN]'.". This could be explained by the dependency of the efficiency factorf on [MBA] and the pres
