Written for practicing engineers in the electric power industry as well as advanced students interested in power system dynamic behavior, this text explains the dynamic performance of power systems, describes the mechanical system that drives the electric generators, and covers the dynamic reactions between the prime mover and generator systems. It explains how to analyze the dynamic performance of interconnected power systems, how to examine the characteristics of various components of a power system during normal conditions and during disturbances, and how to analyze system behavior using computational tools. This second edition covers synchronous generators and their excitation systems, mathematical modeling, and the modeling of the power system stability problem. Chapter problems are included. Anderson is a retired professor of engineering. Fouad is professor emeritus of engineering at Iowa State University.
