✦ Synopsis
This paper describes the design and implementation of a proxy agent that is used to remotely access and manage a network of intelligent telecommunication power supplies, using the de facto management protocol-Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The proxy agent translates the commands and responses communicated between the proprietory intelligent power supplies and the SNMP network management station. As each proxy agent handles more than one intelligent power supply unit, additional intelligence is added to make it more useful, e.g. information on newly added rectifiers. The intelligent power supply information was modelled using the entity-relationship model. Using this model a new Management Information Database (MIB) has been successfully designed and implemented for the management of a network of intelligent power rectifiers.
