✦ Synopsis

A series of experiments has been carried out on a thick plate bolted to a thin plate in an L shape to verify the theory presented in the first of these two companion papers. The ratio of energy stored in the plates was measured with and without different gaskets between the joint, and the results are compared with those calculated from the energy balance equations for non-conservatively coupled structures [ l ]. The theory presented in Part I has also been applied to the estimation of the effective loss factors due to air pumping of two plates bolted in parallel. In both cases, agreement between measured and calculated results is found to be good.

The broad-band power flow between two non-conservatively coupled oscillators, excited by forces which have fiat spectra in a frequency region tot < to < to u and have small values outside that region, has been examined. It is shown that the power flow is not only proportional to the difference betwe
