✦ Synopsis

Potentiometric titrations of acrylamide-acrylic acid copolymers of high molecular weight were made at various polymer concentrations, Cp, and ionic strengths, L At a given pH, the ionization degree of the carboxylate groups is found to increase when Cp and I increase. In the absence of salt and for a fraction • of acrylic units in the polymer, the values ofpK a at different Cp lie on a single curve as a function of (CtCp ~.,3) for a given r. It is found that pK~ obtained for the various values of C O is a polynomial function of ~ 1.2 Cp-t'3.
