## Abstract Capillary columns offer the toxicologist several advantages over packed columns. We have presented a highly reproducible screening procedure based on the retention index system and have shown the use of capillary columns for routine quantitation. We are currently expanding the use of th

β¦ Synopsis
The usefulness, the applicability and the limitations of capillary gas chromatography in various types of toxicological analysis were discussed. Technical parameters of capillary gas chromatography, such as type of injector, type of column with regard to material, size, and stationary phase were assessed in view of the requirements of toxicological analysis. The main advantage of capillary gas chromatography, i.e. high separation power, is unfortunately counterbalanced by low loadability and/or speed of analysis. In the present situation capillary gas chromatography is a method of choice in drug screening despite some disadvantages, but in drug-oriented analysis the conventional chromatography on packed columns is probably more useful.

## Abstract The use of capillary column gas chromatography for drug screening in forensic toxicology has become increasingly widespread. Screening procedures however are often lengthy and unsuitable for rapid confirmatory or quantitative applications. In order to develop a practical scheme for conf
Gas chromatography (GC) of barbiturates is currently carried out mostly on the bis-N,N'-alkyl derivatives. Free barbiturates, even on apolar or medium polar phases, adsorb irreversibly, rendering GC difficult or impossible [ l ] . This behaviour is observed both for
