β¦ Synopsis
New solid supports have been prepared from rocks such as perlite and volcanic slags by alkali-acid treatment. Their physico-chemical characteristics (bulk density, specific surface area, pH, mechanical strength) are similar to those of solid supports of diatomite origin. They are characterized by lower adsorptive and catalytic activity than that of diatomite supports, e.g., Chromosorb W, Tsvetochrom lK, Dynochrom.
In the separation of model mixtures, comprising saturated hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones and alcohols, these solid supports are superior to diatomite supports.
