✦ Synopsis

The title reagent K/SiO~2~ has a greater reactivity and a different selectivity compared to metallic potassium. It is particularly suitable for dimerizations: benzophenone can be converted with K/SiO~2~ into benzopinacol in 72% yield; bromo‐ and iodobenzene afford biphenyl in yields of more than 80%.
