The course of postoperative sciatic nerve lesions is presented and discussed on the basis of 12 cases. Sciatic nerve injuries frequently manifest themselves as a paralysis of the peroneal nerve, l~{ost patients showed the first signs of the lesion immediately on awakening from anaesthesia, whether it was in the form of sensory or motor deficits, and all patients did so within 18 hrs. If only flaccid paralysis was present, without pain, the prognosis for complete restitution is poor. Sensory recovery requires more time than motor recovery. There is no correlation between sensory dysaesthesia and the extent of the lesion. 10 of the 12 patients made a good or fair recovery.
Znsammenfassung. Es wurde an Hand yon 12 Fiillen der Verlaufpostopera~iver Ischiadieus-I~sionen dargestellt und diskutiert. Sch~digungen am Stamm des N. ischiadicus manifestieren sieh hgufig in Form einer Peronguslghmung. Alle Patienten wiesen die ersten Zeichen der L~sion, sei es in Form yon sensorischen oder motorisehen Ausf~llen, innerhMb yon 18 Std auf, die meisten jedoch sofort naeh Aufwachen aus der Narkose. Sind keine Schmerzen, sondern nut sehlaffe Lghmungen vorhanden, ist die Prognose fiir eine vollstgndige Erholung sehleeht. Die sensorisehe Erholungszeit dauert lgnger als die motorisehe. Es besteht keine l~elation zwisehen den sensorische~ 5Iigempfindungen und dem AusmaB der Lgsion. Von 12 Patienten erholten sieh l0 gut oder befriedigend.
