✦ Synopsis
Proton irradiations on polycrystalline textured Bi Sr CaCu O Bi-2212 and Bi Pb Sr Ca Cu O 2 2 2 8qd 1.84 0.34 1.91 2.03 3.06 10qd Ž . 15 Bi-2223 samples have been carried out. The irradiation induced defect size increases with dose up to 5 = 10 protonsrcm 2 in Bi-2212, but remains effectively constant in Bi-2223 as revealed from positron lifetime measurements. Magnetization studies show that at moderate dose, there is no significant change in intergranular critical current density Ž int . Ž . J in both systems. But intragranular critical current density J increases with dose in Bi-2212. A drastic fall in both c c J int and J is observed at high dose in Bi-2223 as compared to Bi-2212.

## Abstract We have studied in detail the dependence of the electrical resistivity as a function of temperature of Bi~1.65~Pb~0.35~Sr~2~Ca~2~Cu~3~O~10+__δ__~ ((Bi,Pb)‐2223) and Bi~1.65~Pb~0.35~Sr~2~CaCu~2~O~8+__δ__~ ((Bi,Pb)‐2212) ceramic samples. Both types of samples were obtained by a solid‐stat
