Port of LA orders Vision fuel cell truck
I n California, Vision Industries has been awarded a purchase orderworth up to $280 000 -from the Port of Los Angeles, for a zero-emission Class 8 fuel cell hybrid electric truck. The truck will be one of only a handful of zero-emission Class 8 hybrid trucks in operation anywhere in the world.
The Port of LA has been negotiating with Vision Industries for the purchase and evaluation of Vision's hydrogen fuel cell hybrid-electric trucks [FCB, February 2010]. The heavyduty big-rigs will be tested for their suitability in short and medium distance cargo-hauling (drayage) operations.
'This truck will be used for moving the City of Los Angeles Harbor Department's TransPORTer exhibit,' explains John Holmes, deputy executive director of the Port of Los Angeles. 'We continue to negotiate with Vision for the purchase and evaluation of Vision's hydrogen fuel cell hybrid-electric trucks.' Vision Industries will work with the Port of LA to evaluate the performance of its Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell hybrid-electric truck in the port trucking environment. The trucks are powered by a combination of a hydrogen fuel cell and lithium batteries.
The company is also developing the plug-in electric/hydrogen fuel cell hybrid Tyranoβ’ truck, utilizing PEM fuel cell modules from Canadian-based Hydrogenics [FCB,
