✦ Synopsis
I.c_Oxo4is[porphinatoiron(III)]
compounds are formed from both porphinatoiron and porphinatoiron(II1) compounds under a variety of reaction conditions and may occur in oxidized cytochrome c oxidase [ 1 1 _ Knowledge of porphyrin substituent cis effects can aid in predicting the formation and reactions of poxo-bis[ porphinatoiron(III)] compounds_ Such predictions are particularly important in designing syntheses of porphinatoiron(III) compounds with known axial ligand(s). Ligand exchange reactions of p-oxo-bis[porpbinatc+ izon(III)l compounds in heterogeneous solvent systems (an aqueous salt phase and an organic phase) have been useful in syntheses of pure monomeric porphinatoiron(I11) compounds [2-S] _ However, this procedure does not always work for all porphyrins_ The studies reported here invoive porphyrin substituent
