✦ Synopsis

A porphyrin with two appended benzo-crown ethers in the form of a porphyrin-based molecular hveezer was synthesised and shown to bind the bipyridinium guests paraquat. diquat and Pt(bpy)(NH& dications in several solvents. The conformations of the host molecule were shown to be solvent dependent. Lack of binding by a noncrown ether containing analogue demonstrated the necessity of the crown ether chains for the binding of guest molecules

## Abstract Four novel molecular tweezers, **6**–**9**, have been synthesized having, for the first time, three fused __Tröger__'s bases. The compounds differ in the relative configuration of the three fused methylene bridges and have been unambiguously characterized by NMR.
