โœฆ Synopsis

The effect of volume fraction porosity on the mechanical properties of cement mortar is studied.

It is shown that both the Young's modulus and fracture toughness decrease with porosity.

Although the flexural strength also decreases with porosity the linear relationship is largely fortuitous. Maximum size pores do not act as critical flaws in controlling flexural strength.

The critical crack size is several times larger than the maximum pore size due to stable crack growth according to the crack growth resistance curve concept applied to cement mortar.

In this work, several nanomaterials have been used in cementitious matrices: multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and nano-clays. The physico-mechanical behavior of these nanomaterials and ordinary Portland cement (OPC) was studied. The nano-clay used in this investigation was nano-kaolin. The metak

The influence of heterogeneity of cementitious matrices, e.g. uneven porosity distribution in repair cement paste or mortar, on surface corrosion of the reinforcing steel was investigated using a low frequency impedance technique. Rebar embedded in lower porosity matrices had lower surface impedance
