to debate this issue and to verify the competence existing in each Member State for the reliable quantification of PCDDs, PCDFs and PCBs in fatty matrices. In the short term, two proficiency tests will be set up to assess the actual capabilities of the NRLs in this field, and to train those laboratories which would need assistance.

In conclusion, the activities carried out so far by the Rome CRL as regards POPs witness a significant progress in the reliable and integrated operation of the NRLs as a network capable of contributing significantly to the protection of the health of consumers.
