Abstract

The condensation of N,N′‐diaminopiperazine with methylenebis(4‐phenyl isothiocyanate) proceeded easily in dimethyl sulfoxide solution to give a high molecular weight, soluble, polythiosemicarbazide (I).

In agreement with the known behavior of monomeric thiosemicarbazides, the polymer reacted readily with various metal ions to give metallic chelates. These chelates did not have the expected thermal stability, however.
