โฆ Synopsis
In the papers by BOERGESEN dealing with the marine algae of the western region of the Indian Ocean, about 15 species of Polysipbonia Greville are recorded oยฃ which 5 occur on the Indian shores. The present new species of Polysiphonia was found on the sandstone reef at Gopnath on the south-east coast of Gujarat, in the Gulf of Cambay. The reef slopes very gradually from high tide level to low tide level and is about 100 meters in width when exposed at neap tides. The Gulf is very turbid during the southwest monsoon, from July to September. Buteven at other times the water is not clear; and the reef is covered with soft, sticky mud with a slight admixture of sand. Coral fragments are absent. The alga is common in the tide pools of the reef, in the midlittoral. It is attached to stones, on the edges s well s in the interior of the tide pools, and is submerged in i-2 inches of water during low tide.
