✦ Synopsis


Optically active poly((S)-isopropylethylene oxide) (poly( 5)) was prepared and its specific rotation, [2]&', was found to bc -39.1 and -10.0 in cyclohexane and in benzene.

respectively. The NMR spectra of poly(5) were measured in deuterated cyclohexane. in deuterated benzene and in deuterated chloroform at various temperatures. From the coupling constants, the conformer populations about the C--C bond of the main chain were calculated to be T = 29":,. G +.= 50'%, and G = ? I ":,.

From theoptical rotation and NMR behaviours. combined with the results ofconformational analysis, the interaction between the solvent benzene and the main chain of poly(isopropylethy1ene oxide) was concluded to be much weaker than that of poly(propylene oxide). This difference in solvcnt interaction may be the cause of different ORD behaviours of these two poly(alky1ene oxide)s in cyclohexane and in benzene solutions.

Optisch-aktives Poly((S)-isopropylathylenoxid) (Poly(S)) wurdc dargestellt. Seine spezifische Rotation, [2]&'. betrlgt -39.1 und -10.0 in Cyclohexan bzw. Benrol. Die NMR-Spektren von Poly(5) wurden in Deuterocyclohexan, in Deuterobenzol und in Deuterochloroform, bei verschiedenen Temperaturen gemessen. Die Hlufigkciten der Konformeren bezuglich der C-C-Bindung der Hauptkette. wurden aus den Kupplungskonstanten zu T=29'%,, G'=SO'Y, und G -= 2 l ' x berechnct. Aus der optischen Rotation und dem NMR-Verhalten. sowie den Ergebnissen der Konformationsanalyse. wurdc geschlossen. dan die Wechselwirkung zwischen dem Losungsmittel Benzol und der Hauptkette des Poly(isopropylathy1enoxid)s vie1 schwlcher ist als die des Poly(propy1enoxid)s. Diescr Unterschied in dcr Losungsrnittelwechselwir- kung kann die Ursachc fur das verschiedene ORD-Vcrhaltcn dieser zwei Poly(alky1cnoxid)e in Cyclohexan-und in Benzollosungen sein.
