✦ Synopsis
Stress crystallizing sulphur vulcanizable copotymers of propylene oxide have been assessed in general purpose carbon black reinforced compounds.
In tyre tread formulations road wear equivalent to that of styrene-butadiene rubber was achieved, but only by using higher levels of carbon black and making dynamic properties inferior.
The higher strength of the partly stereoregular polymer compared with the amorphous material was an advantage in compounds containing carbon black of larger particle size suitable for tyre casings; products with properties broadly comparable to those from natural rubber were obtained.
