In 2006, the 100,000 tonnes/y carbon black production line jointly financed by Shaanxi Hancheng Mining Development Co Ltd and Jiangxi Kaimenzi Group will be completed. In 2003, China imported 131,000 tonnes of carbon black. South Korea was a major supplier, accounting for 26,700 tonnes at $634/tonne. Exports of carbon black from China were 5700 tonnes, more than double the 2002 figure. The country's carbon black production in 2003 was 1.0181 M tonnes. The average annual growth in exports was 85%. The volume of ethylene tar oil that can be used as feedstock oil for carbon black production is projected to reach 750,000-800,000 tonnes in 2005. China's carbon black output is forecast to reach 1.38 M tonnes in 2005.
