The Hall polynomial g p counts subgroups of type and cotype in a finite Ε½ . abelian p-group of type . We derive a formula for g p , along the lines of T. Klein's original formula but much simpler, which shows that its expansion in powers of p y 1 has nonnegative coefficients.
