✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Binary hard‐segment type polyurethanes from para‐linked triad aromatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanatodiesters (1,4‐phenylene dibenzoate, diphenyl terephthalate, diphenyl trans‐1,4‐cyclohexanedicarboxylate and dicyclohexyl trans‐1,4‐cyclohexanedicarboxylate) and aliphatic diols as chain extenders are described. Due to the favorable aspect ratio of the triad mesogens most of the polyurethanes have an enantiotropic (nematic) mesophase. The influence of substituents in the mesogen and of the chain extender on the thermal transitions of the polyurethanes was studied and compared with the properties of the parent isocyanates.
