✦ Synopsis
Graft polymerization of metal chelate monomers based on 1-phenyl-4-methylpent-4en-l,3-dione onto a polyethylene powder pre-irradiated in air has been studied. The kinetic features of the grafting have been investigated. Polymers containing metal chelate units with a metal content as high as 0.64 wt% have been obtained. A comparative analysis of the physico-chemical properties of the low molecular weight complexes and their polymeric analogues has been done. The grafting of metal chelate monomers was found not to alter the structure of the monomer unit, the valence state, or the coordination of the metal atom.
