✦ Synopsis

Two biphenyl compounds with diene groups at both ends of the biphenyl group were synthesized. A nematic phase was observed for both the biphenyl compounds. Bulk photopolymerization was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Reactivity and for- mation of a polymer network with uniaxial molecular alignment are discussed in relation to the molecular ordering of the biphenyl compounds. 0
