Abstract
In the polymerization of ethene cocatalyzed with modified methylaluminoxane, the catalyst activities of the siloxane‐bridged dinuclear zirconocenes, tetramethyldisiloxanediylbis(cyclopentadienylindenylzirconium dichloride) (3) and hexamethyltrisiloxanediylbis(cyclopentadienylindenylzirconium dichloride) (4) were lower than that obtained with the siloxane‐bridged mononuclear zirconocene, tetramethyldisiloxanediyldicyclopentadienyldimethylzirconium (1). On the other hand, weight‐average molecular weight M̄~w~ and ratio of weight‐ to number‐average molecular weights M̄~w~/M̄~n~ of polyethene (PE) obtained with 3 or 4 were higher than those of PE obtained with 1. For a binary mixture of 1/3 or 1/4, it was found that the obtained PE exhibits a bimodal molecular weight distribution for an appropriate composition of the mixed zirconocenes. M̄~w~/M̄~n~ of PE could be adjusted by changing the relative concentrations of the two zirconocenes.

Both the rac-and meso-dinuclear ansa-zirconocene catalysts (-C 12 H 8 {[SiPh(Ind) 2 ]ZrCl 2 } 2 ) were prepared by a coupling reaction between 2 equiv of diindenylphenylchlorosilane (rac-and meso-isomers) and 1 equiv of p-dilithiobiphenyl in diethyl ether at Ϫ80°C, followed by a successive reaction
Two kinds of the trisiloxane-bridged dinuclear titanium metallocene-type complexes were synthesized. They are monocyclopentadienyl and biscyclopentadienyl dinuclear titanocenes with trisiloxane bridges. The above complexes with modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO) cocatalyst initiate the polymerization
The polymerization of ethylene was studied by using a series of polysiloxane-bridged dinuclear zirconocenes [(SiMe 2 O) n SiMe 2 (C 5 H 4 ) 2 ][(C 9 H 7 )ZrCl 2 ] 2 (7, n Å 1; 8, n Å 2; 9, n Å 3), the corresponding mononuclear zirconocene (C 5 H 5 )(C 9 H 7 )ZrCl 2 , 10, and the pentamethylene-bridg
