Abstract

The polymerization of acrylonitrile initiated by methoxo‐β‐diketone nickel chelates of the [Ni(L)(CH~3~O)(CH~3~OH)]~n~ type and pyridine was studied. Chelating agents L employed included acetylacetone, ethylacetoacetate, and salicylaldehyde. These systems could initiate the polymerization of acrylonitrile at −40°C. The polymerization is thought to occur by an anionic coordination mechanism.
