✦ Synopsis
The polymerization of 1,2-epoxy-ethylcyclohexane and 1,2-epoxy-3-cyclohexylpropane with cationic and stereospecific catalytic systems has been investigated.
With cationic initiators low mol. wt. polymers, which appear as viscous liquids, were obtained from both monomers.
With stereospecitic initiators, and in particular with the catalytic system A1Et3-Ni(dmg)a, high mol. wt. and partially crystalline polymers were obtained.
The i.r. spectra of the polymers show different spectral features depending on the catalyst employed. Some of the spectral changes observed seem to depend on the existence of a crystalline phase, others are correlated with the presence of highly stereoregular or regular chain segments.
